How will I get the government discount?

The Energy Bills Support Scheme (EBSS) is the Government’s discount on every household’s electric bills this winter to help with rising cost of energy bills. All households across Great Britain will receive a £400 discount, paid in six instalments from October. In addition to this the Energy Price Guarantee has also been put in place to cap the unit rates and standing charges for gas and electricity.

Am I eligible?

All domestic electricity customers on supply with us on a qualifying date will be eligible. This includes Electricity only, and Dual Fuel customers. Customers who only have gas supplies with Home Energy are not eligible for EBSS through us, however you should receive your EBSS payments from whoever supplies your electricity.

When does the EBSS scheme start and end?

Your £400 will be paid in six instalments from October 2022. The first two discounts in October 2022 and November 2022 will be £66 and thereafter you will receive four payments of £67 from December 2022 until March 2023.

Do I have to pay the money back?

No, you don’t have to repay any money back at all. EBSS is a non-repayable discount by HM Government to help with rising energy bills.

What happens if I’m in debt?

You are still eligible for the £400 discount, and it will help you clear your debt.

No. Your payments will automatically be paid so you don’t need to contact us or apply for the scheme.

Please be careful. If you receive an email or text asking you to register your details or – worse still – to send your bank details to claim your discount, this is NOT from Home Energy.  You are not required to apply for this scheme, eligible customers will automatically receive the EBSS discount.

How will I receive my discount?

Your discount will automatically be applied as a credit to your energy account within the first five working days of each month.

What happens if I move home or I change energy suppliers?

The energy supplier providing your energy on the monthly qualifying date will provide your discount. If you switch suppliers or move home, you don’t need to worry because you won’t miss out on your discount!
